January 29, 2008
With each CD purchase, you get FREE access to streaming audio. CD and streaming audio are available 3 days after each live event.
Even though the live seminar on this topic has already taken place, you can still hear it! For your convenience, we've recorded it on CD and audio stream, so you can listen when you have time or share it with colleagues in your organization.
Find out what carrots -- and sticks you can use to keep your organization healthy and productive by participating in the all-new audio conference, Making Your Employees Shape Up or Ship Out: How to Legally Control Benefits Costs.
From free health screenings to discounted health insurance packages, America's employers are stepping up their efforts to lower benefits costs by getting workers to change their unhealthy lifestyle habits.
Some companies have taken more drastic measures, such as banning smoking at work -- and at home. Weyco Inc., a medical benefits administrator based in Okemos, Michigan,
recently instituted a policy that bans tobacco use, even during non-work hours, and employees must regularly undergo smoking breath testing or face termination.
While this smoking ban doesn't violate Michigan state law, other states prohibit discrimination against employees who use lawful products. And in the Weyco Inc. case, approximately 200 workers quit, rather than face mandatory testing. Can you force your workforce to quit smoking? What about obese employees? Is it legal to require your workers to lose weight?
Learn your legal limits for regulating employee health by participating in this HR Hero live event. In just 90 minutes, employment law attorneys experienced in benefits compliance will guide you through emerging efforts to control healthcare spending, including:
- Real-life obesity programs other employers are using and how to encourage your workforce to stay fit without incurring discrimination charges
- Smoking and smoker bans - what are the legal limits of smoker testing?
- Examples of progressive general wellness programs being used by other employers
- The legal limits of instituting a workplace policy that limits "risky off-duty conduct"
- Healthcare premium discounts and other carrots you can use to keep your workforce healthy
- Legal limitations employers encounter when instituting wellness programs, including off-duty conduct statutes, discrimination laws, ERISA, and other restrictions
- And there's so much more...
