HR Hero Audio Conference on CD and Streaming Audio
Presented by John J. Matchulat
May 8, 2007
With each CD purchase, you get FREE access to streaming audio. CD and streaming audio are available 3 days after each live event.
Even though the live seminar on this topic has already taken place, you can still hear it! For your convenience, we've recorded it on CD and audio stream, so you can listen when you have time or share it with colleagues in your organization.
Planning for natural and human-caused catastrophic events can no longer be placed on the back burner. Recent findings from the 9/11 Commission show that disaster preparedness is the cost of doing business in the post 9/11 world.
This commission has urged credit and insurance industries to rate U.S. organizations based on compliance with the new national preparedness standard (NFPA 1600). How would your organization measure up to these new standards? Is your HR department prepared for the unthinkable: hurricanes, tornadoes, an employee or their spouse on the rampage, even a terrorist attack?
Learn how to comply with new government standards and ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster. Participate in the all-new HR Hero audio conference:
Crisis Management for HR: New Requirements for Avoiding Liability
Let John J. Matchulat, author of "Workplace Catastrophes: An Employer's Guide to Workplace Violence, Terrorism and Natural Disasters" walk you through the lessons learned from recent natural disasters and how you must plan for future catastrophes.
Here's what you'll get in just 90 minutes:
- An overview of various types of international and domestic terrorist threats
- A review of statutes (including legislation enacted since 9/11: USA Patriot Act, the Homeland Security Act, among others) which convey rights to employees and the federal government -- and expose employers to liability
- Why the recent attention of Congress to the 9/11 Commission’s findings should be taken seriously by private sector businesses
- NFPA 1600: What it is and how it can help guide you in your business continuity planning efforts
- How and why business continuity planning is fast being recognized as essential to sound corporate governance and responsibility
- An overview of the essential elements common to all business continuity plans
- How to obtain the active participation and leadership of senior management -- the key to any successful business continuity plan
- Why it’s necessary to continuously refine your pre-event and crisis event planning through practice and simulation
- Common priorities that all natural catastrophe plans must have -- including procedures for communicating with employees, shifting business operations, and retaining business data
- The crisis management team: considerations in selection and its responsibilities before, during, and after a natural catastrophe
- Whether an employer can be sued for failing to protect its workers and/or facilities from unknown acts of terrorism
- What employers can do to soften the impact of potential acts of terror in the workplace, including a list of cost-effective security procedures that HR can put into practice -- immediately
