HR Hero Audio Conference on CD and Streaming Audio
Presented by John B. Phillips, Jr. and Kara Shea
May 2, 2007
With each CD purchase, you get FREE access to streaming audio. CD and streaming audio are available 3 days after each live event.
Even though the live seminar on this topic has already taken place, you can still hear it! For your convenience, we've recorded it on CD and audio stream, so you can listen when you have time or share it with colleagues in your organization.
Over a third of those aged 18 to 29 now have tattoos, according to a recent Northwestern University survey. And more than one in seven have at least one body piercing somewhere other than the earlobe.
With tattoos and piercings becoming more common, how do you respect your employees' legal rights to cultural and religious self-expression without disrupting your productive work environment? Is it fair to force your warehouse laborers to dress the same as middle management? Are you risking the loss of your young talent by requiring them to dress like their more "seasoned" and conservative peers?
Learn how to maintain a professional work environment while accommodating dress and appearance preferences. Participate in the all-new HR Hero audio conference:
Your Employee Wore WHAT to Work? HR's Dress Code Challenge
When implementing and enforcing an appearance policy, be prepared to go beyond your employees' clothes. Harrah's was recently slapped with a lawsuit when the company tried to enforce a policy requiring female bartenders to wear makeup, while prohibiting male bartenders from doing the same. The company won, but they had to fight a long, expensive court battle.
Don't risk expensive litigation. Register today for Your Employee Wore WHAT to Work? HR's Dress Code Challenge and let two experienced employment law attorneys show you the secrets to crafting a fair, legal appearance policy, including:
- How detailed to make an appearance policy, how to handle employees in different kinds of jobs, and how to accommodate employees who go against the traditional code for religious or health reasons.
- What other issues need to be considered when writing appearance codes. For example, do your employees interact with customers, vendors, etc., from other countries and cultures? How should you handle the growing numbers of people who mostly work from home (and probably haven't invested in traditional business attire) but occasionally work in the office or meet the public? How do you assess what your employees want and balance that with your business purposes?
- How does the increasingly multicultural workforce affect appearance policies?
- How to handle employees who push the appearance policy just a little, maybe wearing military fatigues that seem a bit too casual for business casual.
- Now that appearance policies are covering more than just dress, how far should they go?
- Will you be forced to relax a policy to attract young talent?
- How do you handle appearance code rebels such as an employee who posted the following on a blog: "what kind of idiot puts a noose around their own neck? At least give the screaming mob something to do."
- Will an appearance policy get you sued for race discrimination, gender discrimination, national origin discrimination, or something else?
