The mortgage meltdown, rising energy costs, and rumors of a recession...
Is your organization ready for what's to come?

Learn how to counsel employees distracted by financial worries, the legal dos and don'ts for buyouts, severances and possible alternatives to layoffs by participating in the all-new HR Hero audio conference, Weathering Tough Economic Times: Strategies for HR.

In just 90 minutes, experienced employment law attorneys will answer your toughest questions, including:

  • How can I keep my employees focused and productive, in spite of rumors of layoffs and other economic turmoil?
  • What are the alternatives to a reduction-in-force? (Possible alternatives may include hiring or salary freezes, attrition incentives, reduction of wages/benefits, reduction in overtime/hours, and reassigning employees.)
  • What's the latest on the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and severance plans? Is the definition of "termination" clear?
  • If a merger is necessary, how can we prepare our employees for what's to come?
  • What are the notification issues surrounding COBRA, and what are the obligations when companies merge?
  • What are the must-know facts on the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN)?
  • If a RIF is necessary, what is the proper criteria for appropriate selection? How should layoff communication to employees be handled?
  • How can layoffs implicate the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA)? (Even large employers often make mistakes involving the intricacies of the OWBPA.)
  • When does a company have to bargain with the union concerning the decision to close a plant and what issues might be raised in bargaining.
  • What about USERRA? When can a returning member of the service be included in a RIF?

Weathering Tough Economic Times: Strategies for HR is just $227.
