More than 25% of America's adult population suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year, according to the National Institute for Mental Health.

How do you know if one of your employees is suffering from a mental disability? Can you ask the worker about his condition without inviting a lawsuit? What information can your request from a healthcare provider? When does the ADA come into play?

Learn legally-sound best practices for dealing with psychiatric disorders by registering for the all-new HR Hero audio conference, Managing Employees with Mental Disorders: Unique Challenges, Best Practices.

In just 90 minutes, you'll learn:

  • How to determine if an employee is a direct threat to health and safety
  • Best practices for dealing with psychiatric disabilities – what to ask, what NOT to ask, determining if the ADA applies, and other legal issues
  • What information employers can seek from health care providers
  • How to explore possible accommodations and when work rules need to be bent or broken
  • How to handle employees who don't fall under the ADA, but still may need accommodations
  • When it's legally safe to terminate someone with a mental disorder
  • Notice issues for employees with difficulty communicating due to mental disorders
  • Documentation tips for mental disability cases
  • Accommodations that aren't going to be found reasonable. (For example, an employee wanting a "bossectomy" because he has trouble getting along with a supervisor.)
