HR Hero Audio Conference on CD and Streaming Audio
Presented by Dr. Diane Gayeski
May 20, 2008
With each CD purchase, you get FREE access to streaming audio. CD and streaming audio are available 3 days after each live event.
Even though the live seminar on this topic has already taken place, you can still hear it! For your convenience, we've recorded it on CD and audio stream, so you can listen when you have time or share it with colleagues in your organization.
You can call them Generation Y, you can call them Nexters, or you can even call them the "iPod" generation — but it takes more than the latest catch phrase to deal with America's largest new workforce.
To recruit and engage this coveted talent pool, you must first learn what makes them tick. Learn how America's top employers are retaining and managing Millennials by participating in the all-new HR Hero audio conference, Are You Ready for the Millennials? What HR Needs to Know to Recruit and Manage the iPod Workforce.
In just 90 minutes, Dr. Diane Gayeski, a corporate consultant and educator of Millennials, will guide you through the unique characteristics of this "Wired Generation." She'll share innovative ideas from best practice leaders at IBM, Capital One, and Intuit, as well as:
- What the Millennials look for when choosing their jobs. For example, a Spherion study found that this generation views time and flexibility as the most important elements for keeping them loyal to their employers.
- How to tailor your organization's culture to attract this coveted talent pool, with an overview of social and psychological factors, such as "instant gratification" traits and why they crave constant communication
- The specific types of communication Millennials expect from their managers, with hands-on management techniques for enhanced performance and productivity
- How to carefully manage and address the unique roles that the "helicopter parents" of this generation play in the workplace
- Workplace habits of Millennials that may conflict with other generational groups at your organization, and how to keep these differences from derailing workplace productivity
- Critical challenges in retaining and managing Gen Y, including how to appeal to their values, their career goals (which aren’t rooted in work and money), and their learning styles
- How to use social networking sites, blogs, podcasts, and mobile computing tools to communicate and engage Millennial employees
- HR’s role in dealing with the growing percentage of Gen Y employees who will require accommodation for their learning "differences." For example, 90% of 18-24-year-olds surveyed in a Spherion study claim listening to an iPod while working improves job satisfaction and productivity.
