Dear Human Resources Professional:
California is once again the most-regulated state in the nation as employers
face a bewildering array of new rules governing their relationship with
the workforce.
To understand the impact of recent laws and regultions on your personnel policies, attend the two-day
learning and networking event, 2007 California Employment Law Summit, this May in your choice of Los Angeles and
San Fransisco.
We’ve assembled a top-flight team of employment law attorneys to deliver critical guidance, including Mark Schickman with the San Francisco law firm of Freeland,
Cooper & Foreman LLP and a regular contributor to California Employment Law Letter. He'll deliver a valuable explanation of recent California cases and regulations of which you simply
must be aware.
Also featured in the program are attorneys from Perkins Coie, one of the West
Coast’s largest and most prestigious law firms. David Ongaro, a partner in the firm and
also a contributor to California Employment Law Letter, will provide wage and hour compliance advice you can use the moment you get back to
the office.
And we're particularly pleased to present Amy Lambert, Google’s Senior Employment Law
Counsel. Amy will explain how the Mountain View company is managing its explosive
growth while remaining the #1 place in America to work, according to FORTUNE.
Plus many, many additional California authorities.
When you register and attend, you’ll find yourself in an intensive and interactive
skills-building experience loaded with practical tips, exclusive insights, and strategic
advice. You’ll use what you learn to review and amend policies, consult with your
company’s top management, and maintain your status as the HR expert.
You’ll come away with a comprehensive awareness of your obligations under new laws
and regulations, plus an understanding of how California and federal court decisions
affect how you meet those obligations. It really is the complete package for California HR
professionals who want to make the right policy decisions, every time.
Please download a PDF of the complete brochure, and review the program agenda. Your registration fee includes two days of learning,
lunch on Thursday, continental breakfast both days, breaks, and a binder loaded with
handouts, pointers, and guidance specific to your experience as a California employer.
If after attending you aren’t completely satisfied, we'll refund your entire registration fee.

Advanced Issues in Employment
Investigations
Jody Shipper, Director of the Office of Equity and Diversity, University of Southern California.
When you need to conduct an investigation in the workplace,
where do you start? And what do you do when your best laid
plans go awry because developments don’t play out as
expected?
Learn the ins and outs of conducting and
overseeing investigations during this session, which will cover
basic investigative principles and then delve in to advanced
issues such as:
- Do you really need to investigate? Learn about situations in
which an investigation isn’t necessary — or wise.
- What happens when an investigation uncovers wrongdoing
but it’s not related to the topic of your original investigation?
- How do you judge credibility and how do you include that
assessment in your report?
- What do you do if you really can’t decide whether an
offense has occurred?
- What do you do when witnesses don’t want to talk?
- What if the employee making the complaint decides
to start gossiping — even after being told that it’s a violation
of company policy to discuss the investigation? Should
you fire the complaining employee?
Bring your toughest questions to this session for an in-depth look
at all the pertinent issues.
