JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Director Human Resources & Development

JOB SUMMARY

Perform all the duties normally associated with a personnel function, provide human resource development including institutional diversity programming, and serve as mailroom supervisor.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties:

  1. Personnel Officer. (80%)
    • Coordinate the employment process for all Faculty, Professional, and Support Staff
    • Serve as the Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity Officer
    • Maintain personnel files on all Faculty, Professional, and Support Staff
    • Maintain personnel handbooks for Faculty, Professional, and Support Staff
    • Coordinate end-of-training and annual evaluations on Support Staff
    • Conduct orientation sessions for new employees
    • Organize, implement, and assess ongoing in-service training and professional development for employees
    • Provide leadership on implementation and updating of institutional diversity plan

  2. Risk Manager. (10%)
    • Complete unemployment insurance claims
    • Coordinate liability and property insurance coverage
    • Process liability insurance claims
Secondary Duties: (10%)

  1. Administrative Telephone Contact Person.
    • Supervise the main switchboard
    • Coordinate new installations and changes for all administrative telephones

  2. Supervise main campus mailroom and coordinate mail services on campus.

  3. Other job-related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Administration.

Evaluation:
Annual evaluation by the Vice President for Administration.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in human resource management, personnel administration, or related field.

Experience:
Minimum of five years in human resource management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting/Pushing/Pulling:
Must be able to lift and carry boxes/packages as needed. Must be able to push and pull file cabinet/desk drawers open and close daily.

Body Positions/Movements:
Sits in a chair at a desk for approximately 6-7 hours each workday; moves from office to office and building to building. Must be able to retrieve items/supplies on overhead shelves and bend/stoop to reach files located in bottom file cabinets.

Hand Use/Sense:
Must be able to use calculator, telephone, typewriter/keyboard and various office machines on a daily basis and be able to write. Must be able to communicate both in person and on the telephone, enter information on the computer and read various instructions given to them.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have basic mathematics, reading, remembering and reasoning skills to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.
