New Online Training
System Helps Prevent Employment Law Violations
Nashville, TN (June 23, 2009) - M. Lee Smith Publishers announces the launch
of Training Today, the new online employment law training system for
supervisors and employees. Training Today helps Human Resources
professionals reduce the risk of lawsuits and workplace conflict arising
from claims of discrimination, harassment, overtime misclassification, FMLA
abuse, and other violations.
The system's courses, available at www.TrainingToday.com, each consist of a
30 minute video presentation that couples dramatized workplace situations
with commentary from practicing employment law attorneys. The courses each
focus on a single legal hot spot, such as sexual harassment prevention,
discipline, discrimination, documentation, firing, hiring, diversity,
privacy, wage & hour law, workplace violence intervention, Family and
Medical Leave Act compliance, performance evaluations, and other potentially
tricky management responsibilities.
"Training Today is a fresh approach to employment law instruction. The
courses resonate with trainees because the scenarios are completely
believable and up-to-date with the workplace of 2009, and the instructors
never talk down their audience," says M. Lee Smith Publishers president Dan
Oswald. "And as the courses are only 30 minutes each and available 24/7,
it's perfect for working into a busy supervisor's schedule."
Each course also includes an interactive quiz to test the trainee's
retention level. The quizzes can become an important part of creating an
affirmative defense to employment law charges should such a situation arise.
Training Today is SCORM-compliant, meaning that it can be integrated into
existing corporate LMS (Learning Management System) applications. It also
comes with its own LMS should the user need one, requiring only that the HR
or training manager assign courses to individual supervisors using the
system's online interface. Training Today then sends notices and reminders,
and reports back on trainee completion success and quiz performance.
Hosting each Training Today course are employment law attorneys Mark
Schickman and Linda Walton. Mark practices with the firm of Freeland Cooper
and Foreman in San Francisco. For the past 30 years, he has concentrated on
employment and labor law, litigating every type of employment matter and
providing advice in avoiding liability for discrimination, harassment,
wrongful termination, union related charges and all other aspects of the
employment relationship.
Linda is of counsel with the law firm of Perkins Coie in Seattle, where she
devotes a significant part of her practice to providing preventative
counseling to employers in a variety of contexts, including day-to-day
advice on a wide range of employment law compliance matters, and the design
and presentation of employment law training programs for managers,
supervisors and human resources personnel.
